O knihe
Cataract is the leading cause of avoidable blindness and low vision worldwide, it is estimated to be responsible for 48% of global cause of blindness. In Nigeria, cataract is the most common cause of severe visual impairment and blindness. According to Nigerian National Blindness and Visual Impairment Survey, cataract accounts for 43% of avoidable blindness. Cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation is highly effective, resulting in an almost immediate visual rehabilitation. It is one of the most cost-effective medical interventions. Cataract surgery results in improved visual acuity and thereby improves visual function with the implicit assumption that this will also improve the overall quality of life.
