O knihe
The dual aims of this book were to gain an insight into the impact on Iranian mothers and fathers of having a child with ASD and to develop and evaluate a suitable educational course to inform parents and improve their well-being. A combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches was used. The first study involved a sample of 43 parents living in Tehran and used semi-structured interviews along with standardized, self-completed rating scales to assess parental understanding of ASD and their personal well-being. For the second study, two groups of volunteer families took part in a specially designed educational course consisting of seven sessions held weekly. A pre- post, crossover design was used to determine the impact of the training on parental well-being. Iranian parents of children with ASD experience the same stress and health problems as parents in other countries but they lack information about the condition. The education sessions offered opportunities for parents to get updated information and to better understand their children. The sessions positively impacted on parental well-being and this was sustained some months after the course ended.
