The purpose of current publication is initially to indicate the shortage of Greek seafarers in Greek shipping companies and what is the effect of this shortage on the operation department of them. More than that, to show what is the plans from various operations managers of Greek shipping companies in order to attract young people in shipping and continue the naval tradition and maritime sovereignty of Greece particularly in this environment of economic uncertainty with the economic crisis. The significance of this research lies with the fact that provides an emergency sign for Greek shipping industry which could be really helpful for the Merchant Marine Academy in order to understand how valuable is the training that they could provide to Greek seafarers in order to have better performance on board and on shore in Greek shipping companies.
