O knihe

Children's ability to understand themselves and others around them has received a great deal of attention in the field of social cognition and developmental psychology. Their grasp of their own and other people's roles has been considered as a primary requisite for developing successful social relationships which facilitates their progress across all domains. Recent research in the field of social cognition details the emerging self-other understanding during the preschool years. Children are highlighted as active agents in developing the skills required for social interaction. The process of children's development in this sphere has been closely related to their participation in everyday social activities. Children's participation in everyday social life provides a researcher with a sound base forthe appraisal and analysis of children's thinking. The current research aims to explore three year old children's understanding of selfand others. The study is based on the assumption that socio-cultural context plays a significant role in children's constructions about self and others, and not something that the child develops through simple internalisation. The current research was initiated to explorechildren's socio-cognitive development within the ecological settings where they live.
