O knihe

Niger Delta region of Nigeria precisely Bayelsa State is predominantly surrounded by water bodies. As a result a lots of Petroleum exploration activities goes on in this region for a very long time which had led to the pollution of this water bodies. Yet the major sources of income of the people in this region is fishing and as well fish is their main source of nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, fatty acids etc. In this study, the nutritional status of four different fish species (Clarias gariepinus, Synodontis budgetti, Oreochromis niloticus and Mormyrops deliciosus) was examined as an index of pollution in selected Bayelsa rivers (Swalli river, Amassoma river, Tombia rivers and Otuokpoti river as (control)). Electrophoretic characterization of fish species was carried out using Helena serum proteins electrophoresis as a taxonomical tool to differentiate the fish species.
