The engine of the rusted pickup hummed softly, blending with the rhythmic chirp of crickets in the surrounding woods. The clock on the dashboard blinked 1:32 AM, but Logan wasn't looking at it. He reached for his phone, but the screen was cracked and dead. His surroundings felt too quiet, like the woods themselves were holding their breath. Then came the tapping-a slow, deliberate knock on the driver's side window. Logan's blood turned to ice. He turned his head, expecting to see nothing but the trees. Instead, he saw his own reflection-his own face-staring back at him. But the reflection wasn't smiling. It was grinning.
