O knihe
An important task for each country is the preservation of its old landraces. They have good taste, greater flexibility and better adaptability to the environmental conditions. A significant number of these resources is stored in the gene bank of the Institute of Plant Genetic Resources based in Sadovo, Bulgaria. These are mainly groups of grain cereals, legumes, forages and vegetables. Local materials from ex situ seed collection date back to 1954 and are regularly updated. The main landrace areas in vivo may still be found at home gardens. The Bulgarian home garden can be defined as a microsystem with high degree of plant species diversity of vegetables, grain legumes, fruit species, some medicinal and aromatic plants, vines, alfalfa, flowers and herbs. The maintenance and preservation of old landraces and forms is very closely linked to their traditional use, dialect of local people, sentiment, family celebrations and religious customs. The purpose of this paper is to draw up a picture of the current state of existing agrobiodiversity in the home garden and to identify opportunities for its preservation and conservation according to the Bulgarian tradition and consumer taste.
